NRSC mocks Manchin cap-and-trade hunting ad
The NRSC ad shows images of Manchin loading a rifle — which were taken from a Manchin ad where he shoots a hole through a piece of paper meant to symbolize last year’s House cap-and-trade bill. The NRSC ad does not mention cap-and-trade, but criticizes Manchin for backing the administration’s healthcare and economic stimulus plans.
It also takes the perhaps unusual step of praising Manchin himself as a “good governor” who “has a bad idea.”
The NRSC ad asks voters to “send Joe Manchin back to Charleston and send a message to Obama.”
Manchin has sought to distance himself from Obama, despite attempts by Republican challenger John Raese to tie the two together on healthcare, stimulus and cap-and-trade.
“I hate to inform my opponent, but Mr. Obama’s name will not be on the ballot for the U.S. Senate in West Virginia. It will be me,” Manchin said when the two squared off in a debate involving all four West Virginia Senate candidates on Monday.
