Sanders says DOJ won’t intervene in Vermont nuke plant case

Sanders — an opponent of the Vermont Yankee plant — has blocked
Ostendorff’s Senate confirmation, alleging the NRC recently voted behind
closed doors to urge the Justice Department to intervene on Entergy’s side in the lawsuit.

Sanders has said that he needed assurance from DOJ that it won’t intervene on Energy’s behalf in order to drop his hold.

“If Vermont chooses an energy future that does not include a 40-year-old, problem-ridden nuclear power plant and that emphasizes energy efficiency and sustainable energy, it is certainly our right and the federal government has no role to play in that decision,” Sanders said Thursday.
