Senators could unveil ethanol compromise Thursday
Klobuchar told reporters Tuesday she hopes to reach an agreement by the end of the week.
In the Capitol on Wednesday she said lawmakers are “getting close” to a final agreement, but offered no specific timeline.
“It’s going very well,” Klobuchar said. “We’re nearing an end to discussing those issues.”
Klobuchar said she hopes the compromise could pave the way for Republicans to be accept a repeal of other tax breaks as part of a broad debt-reduction package.
“It’s a symbol of what could happen going forward,” Klobuchar said. “You’ve got Republicans voting to end subsidies; that’s significant. You’ve got an industry willing to give up a subsidy. You’ve got an industry willing to put the remaining money for this year onto the debt. Now that’s progress.”
