Murkowski, Salazar hold beer summit to mark Alaska Day
What are a few differences over oil drilling policy between friends?
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) gave Interior Secretary Ken Salazar an Alaska Brewing Co. beer Monday, one day before the Alaska Day holiday.
{mosads}It’s the celebration of the formal Oct. 18, 1867, transfer of the territory from Russia to the United States.
Murkowski, the top Republican on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, on Tuesday tweeted a photo of herself and a smiling Salazar holding the Alaskan Amber beer.
“I wished Interior Secretary Salazar a Happy (early) Alaska Day when he visited yesterday,” Murkowski’s photo caption states.
Murkowski had 100 beers flown in (on Alaska Airlines) for the occasion, an aide said, and is handing them out to Senate colleagues, including Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.).
“I’m wishing all my Senate colleagues a Happy Alaska Day with gift packs, and hand-delivered one to Sen. Bingaman,” she said on Twitter Tuesday alongside a photo of the committee leaders.
