News bites: Oil boom brings new neighbors, Iran seeks an oil comeback, and more

A Wall Street Journal analysis shows that Americans are increasingly living next to oil-and-gas wells, a result of the drilling boom enabled by hydraulic fracturing.

“At least 15.3 million Americans lived within a mile of a well that has been drilled since 2000,” the paper reports.

The Washington Post reports that Iran’s oil industry, wounded badly by sanctions, is trying to stage a comeback.

Bloomberg reports that electric automaker Tesla Motors received some good news.

Reuters reports that oilfield services companies like Halliburton are banking on a Saudi Arabian drilling boom to “revive profits that are being squeezed by overcapacity in the North American market.”

The Houston Chronicle chats with Halliburton’s technology chief.
