US schools go green with new lunch trays

Schools across the country may begin an environmental revolution with new lunch plates, The New York Times reports.

The plates, made from sugar cane, turn into compost when thrown away.

A handful of Miami schools are leading the way, but by September 2.6 million students nationwide may be using compostable plates in place of plastic foam lunch trays.
