Al Gore might be one of the biggest supporters of the fight to curb climate change, but he isn’t a fan of geoengineering — large-scale projects that manipulate the atmosphere to counter global warming.
On Wednesday, the former vice president said geoengineering would be “insane, utterly mad and delusional in the extreme” as a means to avoid a climate disaster, The Guardian reports.
{mosads}”The idea that we can put a different form of pollution into the atmosphere to cancel out the effects of global warming pollution is utterly insane,” Gore said on a conference call, according to the Guardian.
Gore added that considering geoengineering techniques by some scientists reveals how “desperate some of them are feeling due to the paralysis in the global political system.”
Gore called the proposal of putting sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere to reflect sunlight, “utterly mad.”
