OVERNIGHT ENERGY: Kerry to meet with top Canadian and Mexican officials

KEYSTONE MAKES THE LIST: When Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird meets with Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday, the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline will be at the top of his list.

Baird hopes to make some headway with Kerry on the TransCanada proposed pipeline during the talks tomorrow morning at the State Department.

Mexico’s Foreign Minister, José Antonio Meade, will also be in the meeting with Kerry and Baird. The list of topics to be discussed include energy and climate change as well as international engagement.

NEWS BITES: Lawmakers had a climate field day on Thursday.

{mosads}Chairwoman of the White House Council of Environmental Quality Nancy Sutley and Environmental Protection Agency chief Gina McCarthy testified early Thursday morning before a Senate committee.

At the Environmental Public Works Committee, both administration officials were drilled by Republicans, while Democrats defended the president’s climate plan.

McCarthy said she would everything in her power to release the necessary information on the agency’s controversial carbon emissions rule for power plants.

Meanwhile on the Senate floor … Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) simultaneously delivered his own speech on the carbon pollution rule for coal-fired power plants while the hearing was going on.

McConnell announced his plans to seek a resolution of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act to force a vote that would stop the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed rule.

E2-Wire reported on the details here.
