Lobby shop inks Shell Oil contract

Monument Policy Group recently signed up Shell Oil, its second major energy client since bringing on John Mulligan in October.

The firm is known primarily for its tech and security work for clients such as the Entertainment Software Association, LinkedIn and Microsoft. It also handles technology-related policy matters for PhRMA and Boeing.

While it operates in transportation, health, trade and other areas, Monument said Mulligan’s hire represents an effort to expand into the energy niche.

Mulligan opened the Washington office for BrightSource Energy, and brought the California-based solar technology company with him as a client when he joined Monument last October.

The firm then landed a contract with Shell Oil, becoming the company’s seventh lobby shop on retainer.

“John has proven one of the best energy minds in Washington and is already helping us develop a broad energy practice in his first three months at Monument,” Verdery said.

Forms filed with the Senate show that Monument Policy group will be touching on several different issues for the company. It will deal with policies involved with Arctic and other ocean drilling sites, energy, trade the Renewable Fuel Standard, among many others.
