Steyer lands $10,000 for $100M climate super-PAC

Billionaire climate activist Tom Steyer landed his first large check for the $100 million he pledged his climate action fund would funnel into 2014 races.

Steyer said the $100 million in contributions to make climate change an issue on the ballot would come from donor contributions and his personal funds. So far, he’s reeled in one $10,000 check from a Florida lawyer.

{mosads}The lawyer, Mitchell Berger, is also a top Democratic fundraiser. Berger was documented as the sole donor for NextGen Climate Action in the first three months of the year, according to a Federal Election Commission filing.

“Well, if I’m the only donor, I guess it won’t be the last time I’m a donor,” Berger, told Bloomberg News. “Although I certainly hope that I’m joined by others at some point.”

Democratic strategist and adviser to Steyer, Chris Lehane, said he is “completely comfortable” that the super-PAC will have plenty of money to use for November’s elections.

Steyer has yet to name the specific races where he will invest his group’s resources, but that announcement is expected soon.
