Green group endorses Nunn in Georgia Senate race

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund threw its weight behind Democrat Michelle Nunn in the midterm race for Georgia’s Senate seat.

Nunn, a former nonprofit executive, would work for sound environmental policies and commonsense measures to protect resources, the group said Tuesday.

{mosads}“Michelle Nunn will work across the aisle to create jobs, expand our clean energy economy and protect our environment for generations to come,” LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski said in a statement.

“She is committed to conserving our iconic landscapes and protecting wildlife while working to safeguard public health by improving the quality of our air and water,” he said.

In the statement, Nunn said she was honored to receive the endorsement and highlighted her nonprofit work that helped conservation.

“Georgians want leaders who will create jobs in renewable energy that can’t be outsourced and who will protect Georgia’s natural landscapes with common sense and a collaborative spirit,” she said.

The LCV endorsement came despite Nunn’s repeated insistence that President Obama approve the Keystone XL pipeline, a position with which green groups strongly disagree.

Earlier this month, Nunn released an advertisement sharply criticizing the Democratic Party for not getting behind Keystone.

Nunn is running against businessman David Perdue (R) for the seat being abandoned by Saxby Chambliss (R).
