European cars 38% dirtier than standards say
European cars emitted 38 percent more carbon dioxide on roads in 2013 than standards mandated.
A report form the International Council on Clean Transportation said the higher emissions means more burning fuel, which costs consumers an extra $570 annually, Bloomberg reports.
{mosads}The gap in emissions from industry promises has widened roughly 8 percent from 2001.
“For society as a whole, the gap more than halves the official carbon-dioxide reductions achieved during the last 10 years, making it more challenging to meet our CO2 reduction and climate-change mitigation objectives,” the council said in the report.
