NextGen targets GOP Senate hopefuls in Michigan, Iowa

Billionaire climate activist Tom Steyer’s political group is targeting Republican Senate hopefuls in Michigan and Iowa with banners.

In Michigan, Steyer’s group NextGen Climate distributed 4-foot long banners throughout the state slamming Republican Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land for ties to conservative donors Charles and David Koch.

{mosads}In Iowa, the group spread the banners on Monday accusing Republican Senate candidate Joni Ernst of opposing the renewable fuel standard, which requires refiners blend a certain amount of ethanol and other biofuel into the nation’s fuel supply.

Ernst has said in that past that she supports the fuel mandate.

With Election Day next week, environmental groups are in full gear, trying to get environmentally-friendly Democrats elected.

In Michigan, Rep. Gary Peters (D) has held a consistent lead. In Iowa, Ernst’s race against Rep. Bruce Braley (D) is neck and neck, with a slight edge going to Ernst.

The two seats are critical in determining which party will control the Senate next year.
