Kerry going to Peru for climate talks
Secretary of State John Kerry will go to Lima, Peru, this week to participate in a conference aimed at writing an international agreement to fight climate change.
Kerry will arrive in Lima Thursday for the second to last day of the United Nations conference, the Associated Press said, citing Obama administration officials. The trip has not been officially announced.
{mosads}Kerry would be one of the highest-ranking officials at the meeting, which mostly consists of designated climate negotiators from each country, including Todd Stern representing the United States.
Kerry’s involvement was a key to forging a deal last month in which the United States and China both agreed to limit greenhouse gas emissions
The Lima meeting is the last full gathering of the United Nations countries before next year’s Paris meeting, at which they hope to finalize and sign an international pact to replace the Kyoto protocol.
