Major Chinese cities failing on air quality

The air quality failed to meet minimum standards in 66 of China’s 74 major cities last year.

The Associated Press reports that the worst air quality came from cities north of Beijing, according to a report released on Tuesday by China’s Environment Ministry.

{mosads}It’s a problem that persists as the world’s No. 1 greenhouse gas emitter attempts to rein in pollution and improve public health.

Despite the majority of major cities failing the basic requirements the number of towns meeting the standards increased last year, AP reports.

China consistently publishes updates on the danger of the pollution in cities across the country, notifying the public when visibility is low and particles in the air increase health risks.
