US energy consumption at lowest level since 1975, feds say

Consumption of energy by the U.S. government fell to its lowest level since 1975 in 2013, according to federal statistics.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Wednesday that energy consumed by the federal government fell to 0.96 quadrillion British thermal units in 2013.

{mosads}Energy consumption by the government has fallen steadily since 2011, which the agency attributed to a decrease in jet fuel consumption, a major source for the Air Force and government as a whole.

Roughly 94 percent of the energy used by the federal government is for vehicles and equipment, the EIA said.
