Carly Fiorina: ‘Liberal environmentalists’ to blame for Calif. drought

Potential presidential candidate Carly Fiorina blamed “liberal environmentalists” for California’s historic drought.

Fiorina told radio host Glenn Beck that the drought, which led last week to the state’s first mandatory restrictions on water use, show greens’ willingness to put the environment ahead of people’s livelihoods.

{mosads}“With different policies over the last 20 years, all of this could be avoided,” Fiorina said Monday, according to Beck’s website The Blaze.

“Despite the fact that California has suffered from droughts for millennia, liberal environmentalists have prevented the building of a single new reservoir or a single new water conveyance system over decades during a period in which California’s population has doubled,” she said.

Fiorina, who was Hewlett-Packard’s CEO from 1999 to 2005, has said there is a “higher than 90 percent chance” she will run for the Republican nomination for 2016’s presidential election.

She called the drought a “classic case of liberals being willing to sacrifice other people’s lives and livelihoods at the altar of their ideology. It is a tragedy.”

Republicans in California and in Congress have proposed multiple times to beef up the state’s water storage with more dams and reservoirs. Environmentalists have pushed back and questioned the impact that the projects would have on the state’s water needs.
