Poll: Most haven’t heard of Obama climate rule

Most Americans have heard little or nothing about the Obama administration’s landmark climate change rule for power plants, according to a new poll.

That was one of the conclusions of an in-depth survey the University of Maryland’s Program for Public Consultation conducted regarding Americans’ views of President Obama’s Clean Power Plan and other clean energy policies.

{mosads}“The Clean Power Plan is not a household word in America just yet,” the report from the survey said.

Sixty-nine percent of respondents said they had heard nothing or little about the Environmental Protection Agency’s regulation, which mandates a 32-percent cut in the power sector’s carbon dioxide emissions by 2030.

Of the remaining respondents, 24 percent said they’d heard some about it, and 6 percent had heard a lot.

The survey found little to no difference in responses from Democrats, Republicans and independent voters.

After pollsters gave respondents a briefing about the rule, including its pros and cons, 69 percent said they supported it, with 32 percent supporting it strongly.

Democrats were much more likely to support it after the briefing, with 89 percent in favor, compared with 47 percent of Republicans.
