Sen. Feinstein plans power plant carbon bill
Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) have introduced a plan, and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) have floated a draft bill, too.
Feinstein’s plan would cover a smaller range of industries than the other measures, and launching the fee at $10-per-ton is less aggressive than the other bills too.
The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions has a handy chart here that compares the Boxer and Whitehouse plans, which differ substantially in structure.
Boxer, chairwoman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, told reporters Wednesday that she will have a climate change hearing some time in July that will include discussion of legislative proposals.
Climate legislation faces remote prospects of passage in the current Congress.
President Obama, within weeks, is expected to announce plans for executive-level actions on global warming, including power plant regulations.
