EPA chief works the phones on busy first day
McCarthy thanked supporters for their backing during her long months-long confirmation process and “pledged to work with all interested parties,” the EPA said in a “readout” of her first-day calls.
McCarthy also “reaffirmed” her commitment to protecting public health and the environment and supporting President Obama’s climate change agenda, the EPA said.
One of the biggest and most controversial pieces of the White House’s climate plan runs through the EPA. The agency is crafting carbon standards for power plants, the nation’s largest single unregulated source of greenhouse gases.
