State Dept.: Keystone XL jobs impact ‘negligible’
The official said State was busy reviewing TransCanada Corp.’s application for a cross-border permit to complete Keystone’s northern portion in a “transparent and rigorous manner.”
Obama took heat Monday from Republicans, industry and unions for suggesting the Canada-to-Texas pipeline would generate 2,000 construction jobs and between 50 and 100 permanent positions.
They pointed to State’s draft review, which said Keystone would generate 42,100 direct and indirect jobs during a two-year building phase. Of that total, 3,900 jobs would go to construction workers.
The draft State review also found Keystone would lead to 35 permanent posts.
