Feds to probe Gulf of Mexico natural gas leak, explosion

The fire aboard Houston-based Hercules Offshore’s rig lasted two days, eventually causing the structure to collapse. All 44 workers were evacuated safely.

Houston-based Walter Oil and Gas Corp. owned the natural gas well.

The incident brought fresh calls from Democrats and green groups to impose stricter regulations on — or to altogether eliminate — offshore drilling.
