Canada’s energy chief heads to DC amid Keystone push

Oliver has made several visits to the U.S. to promote the pipeline that
would bring oil from Alberta’s oil sands projects to Gulf Coast
refineries.

Environmentalists, who bitterly oppose Keystone and allege it will enable expanded oil sands production, are bashing the notion of any kind of trade-off.

“There is no way that Canada can meet its targets for reducing global warming pollution while trying to expand production of the tar sands – the dirtiest, most carbon intensive fuel on the planet,” said Daniel Kessler of 350.org in a statement Sunday.
