Weather Channel to talk climate change with 2020 candidates

The Weather Channel will air interviews with nine 2020 Republicans and Democrats discussing how they plan to tackle climate change.

The hourlong special will review how candidates would address the ways climate change is impacting jobs, the economy, national security and extreme weather.

On the Democratic side, Sens. Cory Booker (N.J.), Kamala Harris (Calif.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) will participate along with former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (Texas) and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg.{mosads}

On the Republican side, former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld and former Reps. Mark Sanford (S.C.) and Joe Walsh (Ill.) will answer questions.

The program, called “2020: Race to Save the Planet,” will air Nov. 7. 

“Extreme weather events are increasing due to climate change, and they affect every American in many ways, from our safety to our finances. Spanning from the flooding rains of hurricanes in North Carolina to wildfires in California, with many other events in between and beyond, every voter experiences the effects of weather. We look forward to showing viewers how the presidential candidates aim to address this critical issue,” said Rick Knabb, The Weather Channel’s hurricane expert.

The special follows two other major network events focused on climate change and the election.

CNN hosted a seven-hour special featuring interviews with candidates, and MSNBC hosted a two-day event sitting down with candidates for an hour each.
