Natural gas ‘glut’ fuels oil sands expansion

Natural gas is the energy source used for processing oil sands into synthetic crude oil.

Environmentalists strongly oppose oil sands development due to greenhouse gas emissions from the projects and the effects of oil sands mining on Canada’s boreal forests.
