OVERNIGHT ENERGY: GOP governors want climate rule nixed

CLIMATE RULE: Nine Republican governors want President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to pull the power plant greenhouse gas rule unveiled this month.

In a Monday letter, the governors called the rule an “unprecedented move” that “would largely dictate to the states the type of electricity generation they could build and operate.”

{mosads}Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) gave his two cents Monday as well. Jindal said while litigation should be a last resort, if Congress doesn’t act it will be pursued.

“There’s a very good chance of litigation not only initiated by the states, but the industry is another,” Jindal said at a Petroleum Club press briefing in Texas Monday.

ON TAP TUESDAY I: The Canadian American Business Council will hold a summit Tuesday on the future of energy cooperation among the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Gary Doer, Canada’s ambassador to the United States, will give the keynote address. Other events throughout the day will include Sens. John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Rep. Bill Owens (D-N.Y.).

ON TAP TUESDAY II: The State Department will host a discussion with “political change makers” at its Our Ocean conference.

Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) will participate in the talk, along with Secretary of State John Kerry and White House adviser John Podesta.

The Senate Appropriations Committee’s subcommittee responsible for energy and water will mark up its funding bill for fiscal 2015 Tuesday.

The Energy Department is holding a Twitter chat at 2 p.m. to celebrate the launch of a new series called “How Energy Works.”
