Overnight Energy: June breaks heat record

IT’S NOT JUST YOU: Last month was the hottest in the federal government’s 135 years of records, the third monthly heat record so far this year.

The average temperature on the world’s land and water surfaces was 61.48 degrees Fahrenheit, according to a Monday report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

It broke the old record — set only a year ago — by 0.22 degrees.

{mosads}NOAA said both the land and surface averages individually set records as well in June.

March and May this year both set similar heat records, while January and February were the second hottest on record.

Additionally, the first six months of 2015 have been the hottest since records began in 1880, NOAA said.
