Florida attorney general asks BP for $2.5 billion in escrow
BP bowed earlier today to pressure from federal officials and congressional lawmakers to pay claims faster and change its payment system to those affected by the spill.
Some lawmakers are trying to lock BP into a formal agreement to pay all costs of the spill, in addition to removing a $75 million cap for damages.
So far, BP has paid $1.43 billion in all costs of the oil spill, including $84 million to the four states affected — Florida, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana — for loss of income in June as well as $53 million in other claims, according to its website.
