Consumer confidence index rose in August

Still the lack of job creation is expected to continue hindering spending as the economic recovery has showed signs of slowing. 

The gauge as to whether it’s a good time to buy big-ticket items such as cars also increased to 78.3 in August from 76.5 in July.

Consumers also have higher expectations for six months from now, a better reflection of where consumer spending is heading, with the gauge increasing to 64.1 from 62.3.
