Poll: 34 percent say the economy is getting worse

The housing market has produced several dismal numbers this week as the sales of existing and new homes plummeted last month. Foreclosures are down, but there is still a large amount of uncertainty as the economy struggles to create jobs.

Only 20 percent of respondents in the CBS poll think the economy is getting better, compared with 25 percent last month. The last time views were that pessimistic was April 2009.

About 44 percent said the economic situation is staying the same, down from 48 percent last month.
