Underemployment over 18 percent, Gallup finds

Despite disappointing economic news, 47 percent of underemployed workers are “hopeful” that they will be able to find a job in the next four months, Gallup finds.

The organization also expects Friday’s jobs numbers to worsen.

“Wednesday’s ADP report suggests private-sector employment declined last month,” it states in a release. “Gallup’s underemployment measure and its employment rate show the job situation worsening.”

The organization suggests it is likely that the U.S. unemployment rate will increase to between 9.6 percent and 9.8 percent when the government reports the August numbers on Friday.
