Pelosi, Hoyer on offensive against Republican economic policies

As the economic recovery creeps along, Democrats focused on the eighth straight month that the private sector has created jobs as the federal government continued to let go of Census workers. 

Still, economists have argued that job creation needs to eclipse 100,000 a month to begin making a dent in the number of jobs lost during the recession. 

“Yet, as Labor Day approaches, too many families are still struggling to make ends meet and we will continue to work to expand job opportunities and extend support for small businesses,” she said.

Pelosi argued that Democrats have moved the recovery forward with “tax cuts for 95 percent of working Americans, eight small business tax cuts, and job-creating investments nationwide.”

“Our efforts are moving us in the right direction, despite solid opposition from Republicans,” she said.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) joined the chorus of Democrats who extracted a positive outlook out of today’s news. 

“Repairing the damage of the most severe economic crisis since the Great Depression will take much more hard work,” he said in a statement. “But today’s jobs report is evidence that Democratic recovery policies have put our country on the right path.”
