Camp calls for vote on GOP tax plan
“This plan can and would pass if the Speaker allows a vote on it, and, more importantly, it will provide the certainty employers need to start investing again and creating jobs,” Camp said in prepared remarks.
Camp stands to be the next Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee if Republicans win the House in November’s election. He noted that the two-year extension was originally proposed by House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), who recently signaled he would be open to President Obama’s plan of extending only the tax cuts for the middle class.
Under the president’s plan, tax cuts for wealthier taxpayers would expire at the end of the year.
“Leader Boehner and I agree that we must do everything possible to stop these job-killing tax hikes,” Camp said. “That is why Republicans have come forward with a bipartisan solution to help our economy create jobs.”
Aside from extending the Bush tax cuts, the GOP would also cut spending to levels not seen since 2008.
