Four House Dems call for one-year extension of tax cuts

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) introduced legislation Monday that would extend the tax rates through 2011. 

Several Senate Democrats have said they support an extension of the tax cuts until the economy improves, including Sens. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.). 

The White House and Pelosi have proposed extending all middle-class tax cuts while allowing the upper income brackets — individuals making at least $200,000 a year and couples making at least $250,000 — to expire at year’s end. 

Reps. Jim Matheson (D-Utah), Melissa Bean (D-Ill.), Glenn Nye (D-Va.) and Gary Peters (D-Mich.) wrote the letter as lawmakers are seeking a way forward on the tax cuts. Matheson and Nye are members of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition.
