Updated: New tax extender bill surfaces in the Senate

“We took up an extenders bill in March, and we’ve been trying again and again to pass a package of all of the expiring provisions pretty much all year since then,” he said. “And just to make entirely clear, I will try again today.”

Baucus then said he will seek unanimous consent to pass an extender package.

Details of the package are expected to be released when the chairman seeks to pass it from the chamber.

However, sources close to the matter say the package is partially offset by using unspent TARP funds and a tax increase for the oil spill liability fund. A tax increase on carried interest is also supposed to be in the bill, but it has been modified from past iterations.

This is a developing story and was updated at 10:17 a.m.
