House postpones votes until next week because CR isn’t ready

Neither the House nor the Senate will hold votes on Friday, Democratic leaders said Thursday night. 

House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) said that because the chambers have been unable to reach an agreement on a continuing resolution, which needs to be completed before the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30 to keep the government running, the House wouldn’t vote Friday.

“After completing work on a major bill that will help small businesses create jobs, the House will not have votes tomorrow,” Hoyer said tonight in a statement. “I was hopeful that we would be able to reach an agreement with the Senate on a continuing resolution so that the House could act on it tomorrow, but while negotiations are progressing they are not complete.”

Hoyer said the House will meet at 10 a.m. on Wednesday and votes are possible on Thursday. There will be no votes on Friday.

Senate Democrats announced tonight that they won’t move forward with votes on tax-cut extension legislation until after the November midterm elections.
