GOP: Push for comprehensive tax reform
Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, said in a statement that the president had focused on corporate taxes.
“Tax reform should address the entire tax code and find ways to help America’s job creators and families deal with the complexity and cost burdens of the current code,” Camp said.
Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-Ohio), the chairman of the Ways and Means subcommittee that deals with taxation, also called for comprehensive tax reform.
“We must cast a wide net and examine the entirety of the tax code, which is overly burdensome and complex not only to corporations, but small businesses and families as well,” Hatch, the ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, said in a statement.
Over on the Democratic side, Rep. Sandy Levin (D-Mich.), the ranking member of the House Ways and Means Committee, didn’t press quite as heard for a broad solution.
“It’s important, I think, to look at it comprehensively. It doesn’t mean we have to do everything at once,” Levin said in an interview.
