Senate Finance approves airport trust fund reauthorization
That action paves the way for the legislation to be offered as an amendment to the broader Federal Aviation Administration legislation the Senate is currently considering, which Democrats in the chamber have said would support thousands of jobs.
In their opening statements at Tuesday’s panel meeting, both Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), the committee’s chairman, and Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), its ranking member, said the airport trust fund badly needed a long-term reauthorization, after being re-upped on a short-term basis 17 times in recent years.
