Dem not enthused about administration’s housing report

“I am very concerned about any plan that likely tells the next generation of Americans that many of them will be unable to own a home, even if they are working and otherwise creditworthy,” said Waters, who is the ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee’s subcommittee overseeing housing.

The best praise she could muster for the report as a whole was that it “at least provides a framework and a starting point for us.”

However, she did say she was encouraged by promises in the report to repair flaws in the nation’s mortgage servicing, as well as its commitment to affordable rental housing for people who cannot afford to purchase a home.

Her counterpart on the panel, Rep. Scott Garrett (R-N.J.) said Friday he was pleased by what the report had to offer.

“I’m encouraged to see the administration included a number of reform ideas that track closely with my own,” he said in a statement.
