Ways and Means to discuss tax reform next week
The announcement came amid some increased chatter on tax reform on Capitol Hill, with Camp and others attending a roundtable Wednesday with Jim Baker, a former Treasury secretary, and former Rep. Dick Gephardt (D-Mo.) — both of whom played significant roles in the 1986 revamping of the tax code.
But the Ways and Means release also showed some of the hurdles policymakers could face on the issue, as Camp’s statement again signaled his desire for a more comprehensive tax reform. Timothy Geithner, the current Treasury secretary, said this week that his administration was working on a tax reform plan that concentrated on the corporate code.
