Goolsbee on S&P: Dems and GOP not that far apart
And he noted that Moody’s Investors Service had come to a somewhat different conclusion than S&P. Moody’s said Monday the president’s recent statements and the Republican budget largely crafted by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) represented a “significant shift in the U.S. fiscal debate.”
“The fundamental thing that S&P is weighing in on is, do you think that we will be able to reach some longer-term agreement on deficits,” Goolsbee said. “And the president’s laid out an agenda, and our numbers aren’t that far apart.”
Goolsbee also said he agreed with a Treasury response to S&P — that the group had made a “political judgment” with which the administration disagreed.
