Poll: Obama bounce still doesn’t extend to economy
A solid majority of registered voters (57 percent) disapproved of the president’s stewardship of the economy both before and after bin Laden’s death.
There was also little change in who the voters trusted to deal with budget deficits, with Republicans holding a 46 percent to 42 percent advantage over Obama before the bin Laden news and a 44 percent to 42 percent advantage afterward.
Voters did give Obama an advantage over Republicans on the economy this week, by a margin of 46 percent to 37 percent. The two sides were virtually tied before the bin Laden news.
For its part, a CNN/Opinion Research poll released Thursday said 50 percent of Americans preferred Obama’s handling of deficits, with 42 percent backing Republicans.
