Strong tax receipts improve CBO April deficit estimate

{mosads}The government is expected to run a deficit of $871 billion in the first seven months of fiscal 2011, a $70 billion increase from the same period last year, the CBO reported. In the first six months of 2011, the deficit was $830 billion, $113 billion more than the year prior.

Despite the slight improvement, monthly CBO deficit numbers will serve as fresh ammunition for congressional Republicans who are seeking to maximize whatever spending cuts they can get in exchange for raising the debt ceiling.
