Evan Bayh, Andy Card to hit the road for Chamber campaign

{mosads}Bayh served in the Senate for 12 years before deciding to retire from Congress last year. Since leaving the Senate he has joined Fox News as a contributor and become a partner at the law firm McGuireWoods LLP.

Card served as George W. Bush’s White House chief of staff in 2000 and served as secretary of transportation for a brief stint in the early 1990s.

Supporters of regulatory reform aren’t happy about the new faces for the Chamber’s campaign.

“Evan Bayh and Andy Card both know from their years of government service that the propaganda from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on regulation has no basis in reality,” said Public Citizen President Robert Weissman in a statement. “They should be ashamed of themselves.”

The Chamber listed the health care law, the financial regulatory reform bill, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Labor Department as entities where many of the regulatory reforms have been focused.

“America is sinking under the crushing weight of the ever-expanding regulatory state,” Donohue said in the memo. “Endless delays are precipitated by often capricious and conflicting rules at different level of government have damaged our reputation as … a can-do country that gets important things done faster and better than anyone else.”
