Economy, jobs top American worry lists
Looking at the first part of this year, men were more likely to cite the economy as their top worry, with that issue and unemployment virtually tied for women.
Whites were more likely to name the economy, and were almost as concerned about the budget as they were unemployment. On the flip side, the job market was the primary concern for blacks, with the economy second and healthcare a solid third.
Those under 65 and those making at least $30,000 a year had the economy atop their list, while older Americans and those making less money than that benchmark were more worried about employment.
{mosads}Democrats were about equally concerned with both, with Republicans and Independents more focused on the economy.
Broadly speaking, Gallup has found healthcare has dropped off as a top concern since the healthcare overhaul passed last year. The budget deficit, despite being much discussed in Washington, is no higher than the third most pressing concern for any group.
