Coburn, Shaheen target federal vehicles

{mosads}President Obama’s fiscal commission, on which Coburn served, also recommended paring down the federal collection of vehicles, which currently number roughly 660,000 and consume about a million gallons of gas a day.

Coburn has taken a central role in the deficit-reduction debate of late, taking part in the Gang of Six negotiations and sparring with anti-tax activist Grover Norquist over the role revenues should play in controlling the federal debt. (He is also currently on a hiatus from the Gang of Six.)

The Oklahoma Republican also has introduced other cost-saving measures with Democrats this Congress, including several aimed at reducing federal printing costs.
