Club for Growth comes out against China currency bill
More specifically, the club presses lawmakers to slash taxes here in the U.S. to try to spark economic growth and creates jobs, and concentrate less on what’s happening in other countries. The group also argues that less expensive imports from China and elsewhere do not drive away U.S. manufacturing jobs, as some have argued.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), a strong supporter of the measure, has expressed confidence that the bill will pass his chamber. But it remains to be seen whether the top Republicans in the House want to act on the bill, and the administration has been restrained in discussing the measure.
The China currency bill has attracted some GOP co-sponsors in the Senate, including Sens. Jeff Sessions of Alabama and Richard Burr of North Carolina, who have strong lifetime scores from the Club for Growth.
In its Wednesday release, the Club also stresses several times that the China currency bill was introduced by Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), who faces what many expect to be a difficult campaign for reelection next year.
The Club for Growth has already endorsed Josh Mandel, Ohio’s Republican treasurer, for Brown’s seat.
