Longtime Senate spending panel staffer departs

Senate Appropriations Committee spokesman Rob Blumenthal announced Friday that he is leaving the committee after five years.

The staffer is leaving immediately to become the communications director for the government-funded National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF).

{mosads}“If you are not familiar with the work of the foundation, their mission is to protect and restore our nation’s fish and wildlife species and the habitats they need to survive, and I’m thrilled to be joining in that mission,” Blumenthal said in an email to reporters.

Blumenthal served under former Chairman Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) and new Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.). He was well-liked by reporters for his knowledge of the arcane appropriations process and calm during the last several years of fiscal battles.
