Baucus hires new tax aide

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) on Monday announced he has hired a new tax staffer to help him advance tax reform.

Baucus has hired Adam Carasso as a senior tax and economic adviser for the Finance Committee.

{mosads}Carasso has served at the chief economist and tax analyst for House Budget Democrats and was a researcher at the New America Foundation and Urban Institute.

“His extensive experience working on taxes and fiscal policy will be critically important as we continue our efforts to modernize the tax code and make it work better for American families and businesses,” Baucus said in a release.

Baucus last week released three tax reform discussion drafts in an attempt to jumpstart tax reform. The papers covered international tax, fraud prevention, ease-of-use and cost recovery.

Carasso earned praise Monday from boss at House Budget.

“Adam’s understanding of tax and economic policy was a great resource to the House Budget Committee, and his experience will serve the Senate Finance Committee well as Congress works to reform the tax code,” Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) said.
