Rep. Stockman calls for Lerner’s arrest
Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) on Thursday filed a resolution directing congressional police to arrest ex-IRS official Lois Lerner on charges of contempt of Congress.
“Asking the Justice Department to prosecute Lois Lerner for admittedly illegal activity is a joke,” Stockman said in a statement.” The Obama administration will not prosecute the Obama administration. How much longer will the House allow itself to be mocked? It is up to this House to uphold the rule of law and hold accountable those who illegally targeted American citizens for simply having different ideas than the President.”
{mosads}The Texas Republican is calling for Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to issue a warrant for Lerner’s arrest, commanding the Sergeant at Arms to place Lerner in a D.C. jail since House Republicans voted to hold her in contempt of Congress for refusing to testify about the Internal Revenue Service’s improper scrutiny of Tea Party groups, a criminal offense.
House Republicans released new documents Wednesday that showed Lerner warned IRS employees to be cautious about what they wrote in emails because of potential congressional interest.
Under Stockman’s resolution, Lerner would have full legal rights and access to an attorney.
